Helping Autistic Children
Reach Their Full Potential
Teaching Autistic Children
Every child deserves the chance to succeed in life, to be respected, supported and nurtured and to have exciting challenges and opportunities to grow and flourish. I believe that this is just as true for our children on the autism spectrum.
Working closely with parents, Speech and Language and Occupational Therapists, I advocate a multidisciplinary and holistic approach to education. Academic goals are important but so too is the emotional well-being of the individual. By providing expert teaching which focusses on the child's unique learning style and by developing opportunities for creative expression, meaningful learning experiences are achieved.
As a teacher, I will not stop until I have found a way to make a connection with your child and begin the process to enhance and accelerate their learning and development. Central to my teaching ethos is respecting your child for who they are, working with their strengths, talents and interests and to never underestimate their abilities. I will always encourage independency and help them to achieve their true potential with ambitious and exciting teaching.
For me, autism means different, not less.
About Me
My experiences of parenting a child on the autism spectrum led me to retrain as a Special Educational Needs teacher. Teaching children with SEN has been my passion for over 20 years, and I have been fortunate enough to have worked with children with a range of disabilities both in Switzerland and the UK. Leading an autism provision provided opportunities for me to develop a unique and highly effective set of teaching strategies using music, art and drama dedicated to supporting and improving children’s speech and language, social interaction and behaviour. I have worked closely with Speech & Language Therapists to develop fun, practical and accessible communication resources and methods designed to support young children’s joint attention and language development.
I am a powerful and passionate advocate for autistic children and their right to receive the best education possible. As a mother of a daughter on the autism spectrum, now a 24 year old university graduate, I know all too well the joys, difficulties and challenges that parenting and educating a child on the spectrum can entail. I also understand the impact that this can have on your family life.
I always have high expectations for my pupils and personalise my teaching to meet each child's unique and individual needs. With this approach, I believe that it is possible for children and young people in the autistic community to find success and fulfilment.
